I’m sure like me when you go on holiday you meet people who although you may never see again, you will always have fond memories of them. Chris and I escaped the pre-Christmas madness for a little Spanish sunshine and had a week in Nerja on the Costa Del Sol. On the transfer coach from the airport to the hotel, as we got closer to the hotel an elderly couple a few seats behind us were re-living the journey to the hotel and gave us a little guided tour of the route to our hotel … the water fountain, the bridge etc. We spent quite a bit of time with Betty & Dave (77 and 81 years old). They were the sweetest couple you could imagine. Chris had made some comment about Betty looking after Dave and she replied ‘We both look after each other’. To have this kind of love and support was amazing to see.
A few of my favourite photographs from the holiday…Unfortunately I didn’t get a photograph of Betty and Dave and wish I had now.
We took a day trip to Gilbraltar and I loved it. The monkeys were so cute and great subjects to capture on camera.
From Wikipedia ” The Barbary macaque population in Gibraltar is the only wild monkey population in the European continent. Although most populations in Africa are facing declining populations due to hunting and deforestation, the population of Barbary monkeys in Gibraltar is growing.”
“A popular belief holds that as long as Gibraltar Barbary macaques exist on Gibraltar, the territory will remain under British rule. In 1942 (during World War II), after the population dwindled to just a handful of individuals (just seven monkeys), British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill ordered their numbers be replenished immediately from forest fragments in both Morocco and Algeria because of this traditional belief.”
So with the start of 2017, lots of New Years resolutions and setting of goals, isn’t it everyone’s desire to be happy like Betty and Dave. We may want to lose weight, set new goals for our business or change something we don’t like about our life or ourselves. Whatever our dreams for 2017, ultimately we all want to be happy and feel good about ourselves.
For me being a photographer is such a gift and feel so blessed when a couple chose me to take their wedding photographs. When messages were posted on Facebook about going back to work, I feel so lucky that I have a job I don’t regard as having to go back to work. I don’t have to go ‘back-to-work’ as being a photographer is part of my life – My Lifestyle.
You might recall my earlier blog post ‘Let the Flowers Bloom’ about how I am going to incorporate changes to my own lifestyle into my ‘Meet Me’ page on my website. I’d love brides to get to know me through my lifestyle rather than a static About Me website page. It’s my journey for 2017 and I invite you all to join me on this journey.
So with plans in place for 2017, I have had an amazing week – although maybe not as productive as I had hoped but it’s been great for building the foundations for my new lifestyle venture.
With a new app installed on my iPhone I’m making the most of my gym membership at the local Energique Gym in Alton and have been doing some running/walking on the treadmill. I’ve managed to go to the gym three times this week and with running/walking for a total of 1:43 hours burnt 837 calories. (Although the Prosecco I drunk with friends on Friday night will have eaten into those burnt calories). I’m aiming to lose half a stone before our next holiday mid-January so need to keep focused. To compliment my gym activity, I’ve signed up for a 13 weeks body conditioning class with Emma Deegan of Emma Deegan Dance Academy. Wow, did my legs feel heavy for a couple of days. I found the stomach exercises quite tough so going to do a specific blog with Emma on stomach exercises… new blog coming soon. In a few months time I hope to share a photograph showing how much my stomach muscles have improved. I am also looking forward to February with Emma becoming my personal trainer and pushing me a little bit harder to become fit and healthy.
I did my first photo shoot with fashion blogger Snighna this week. We both had an amazing time. We’ve planned fashion shoots for the next few months and, although it could be expensive, I am looking forward to outfit recommendations from Snighna that I can share with you on my blog. I brought along some of my clothes that I like and Snighna suggested some enhancements to my existing wardrobe. Even though we looked at clothes from my current wardrobe, I did spent a few hours in Basingstoke shopping centre this week buying new clothes and accessories so look forward to sharing my outfit ideas soon. I’m very girlie and my branding is quite pink and pretty so it is interesting to see that I am influenced a lot by pink.
I love Snigdha’s first blog of the year ‘What do you want to be? ‘ Here are a few of my favourite photographs from that shoot. It was so cute when the little squirrel got in the shot too. Although I think he was hoping for some food rather than the fame of being included in Snigdha’s blog!
What is Snigha wearing…
I am thinking that a lot of my fashion blogs over the coming months will be based around what to wear as a portrait and wedding photographer. Snighna took some photographs of me in action as this is what I would typically wear when doing a urban portrait shoot right now. It will be interesting to see how my photographer wardrobe changes throughout this year.
What is Jennifer wearing…
I loved catching up with Hayley Lovelock this week too. We started our journey together on makeup blogging. Hayley have a true passion for makeup and am looking forward to her sharing with me products, tips and ideas to enhance my makeup skills. We started with my eye brows and what products would be good for me.
So quite timely I get to bring all my weeks experiences together in getting ready to have dinner at friends. It felt good being able to wear something a little different and experiment with new makeup techniques.
So exciting times ahead and let the journey begin…
